Hello :)

I’ve not been doing much projects recently due to a heavy work load at the ministry which included a lot of photography/filming away from home. I still haven’t processed my Osprey project from mid July but looking over the Raw files there are some that I’m looking forward to blogging !

A sneak preview of this beautiful bird from Scotland is below.

Osprey

I travelled to Mid Wales at the beginning of July to photography low fly military jets.

USAF F-15 Eagle interceptor

The campsite I stayed at was in a valley next to a river near to the town of  Dolgellau stunning  spot !

Campsite

As I’d arrived at the pitch I could hear a lot of noise from the river bank, it was a pair of Juvenile Dippers being fed by its adults.

Juvenile Dipper

I spent the first two days up in the hills shooting the jets then couldn’t resist the pull of the river and decided to concentrate on the dippers for the last day, what an experience I had with them !

Camera Equipment

The dippers were using a small section of the river so it wasn’t long before they came back after I’d installed my equipment, It was my first time using a new bit of kit for the wide shots a Samsung U20 it helped not to disturb the birds by changing lenses, you can read up on it here at DVGizmo who contacted me to explain the setup I used.

I’ve uploaded a clip to you tube of the dippers feeding and preening, if you look closely at 1:18 you can just see the top of my 500mm I forgot to crop out on the edit oops :)

I did have a little friend with me between sessions that kept me company :)

Mouse

Hoping to edit and process the Osprey shoot shortly!

Thanks for looking P

Hello :) I’ve uploaded a short video sequence from my little owl session during June 2010

Little Owl

I didn’t have as much time as last year but  it was still a privilege to spend the amount of time  I did with them,Last year we had a family of four this year we were blessed with just the two, the shot above was taken in June the shot below was taken at the end of July and you can see the difference with them growing into there adult coat.

Little Owl

They are more weary of me now and if I try to photograph them they fly instantly where as a few weeks ago I was laying on the ground between them?!

Little Owls

I’m hoping next year if all being well that I will record the fledging and have a camera in the nest box recording the action! who knows we  may even have a Barnowl in the other boxes!

Cheers Paul

Hi :)

I wanted to share my first time with a Spotted Flycatcher that I came across in a local woodland  and luckily for me they were feeding young so were very active hunting.

Spotted Flycatcher

The best thing about photographing this Spotted Flycatcher  is it used the same perch to hunt prey from so it would always kill then return to the perch then take the feed to its young, I’m not sure if all of them do this but my pair did (hence the repetitious composition) .

One amazing thing I never noticed whilst I was at the location is the beak snaps very loudly as they catch their prey! I only noticed this when previewing the video, the short but sweet clip below gives an example of this, listen carefully at 3 seconds in as it catches its prey !

Wonderful experience !

Thanks for looking :)
