I’ve been bloggin about our little owl site for sometime and had been watching the nest box site for over four months with various activity between two adults.
We have three boxes but couldn’t work out which one the female had settled for until the male started bringing food on a regular basis to box one, I’d decided to set up my hide and perch near to the box before they fledged so I could monitor and film the fledging but I had my hide and camo gear stolen!!
Now bear in mind that the hide was on secure private land, it begs belief why anyone would want to steal it and how they stole it!? They don’t come cheap at just over £250 ! I had to scrap that project.
During the time of fetching food one of the adults had an injury to its left eye as you can see by the image below its iris is closed all the time
I dont have a clue to what happended to it but it seems to be coping really well!
The reason for this blog was to introduce you to this years new offspring and following on from last years successful brood they have again produced these wonderful balls of fluff
.
Because of my hide was stolen I missed a day or two but they have now ventured out a bit further from the box site and I’m able to get some shots of there first few days out.
They are feeding independently although the parents are watching me and the young ones at a very close distance, usually they fly off when they see my lens! Dad does occasionally bring down a treat for them.
I will be trying over the next few weeks to film and record sound of them before the parents decide they have to go there own way.
Thanks for looking
Paul
